The Wine Shop & J. WEBB wine merchant
The Wine Shop was originally founded in 1985 and was the oldest independently owned and operated wine merchant in Alberta. In early 1986 J. Webb Wine Merchant opened its doors to become the second longest serving wine shop. A new chapter has begun in 2024 as these two iconic brands have come together in one company. We are proud to honour the legacy of both of these iconic stores as we forge a new path and begin our own legacy. Sharing the same values for sourcing wines from all over the world, primarily focusing on small, family run producers that match our philosophy – namely wines that have authenticity, character and quality. A very large percentage of our wines are organic or sustainably produced, and many of our wines are exclusive to us in Alberta. We have wines to suit all budgets, from everyday drinkers to rare, high-end wines for those special occasions.
THE TEAM
Our team of friendly and knowledgeable staff have earned the reputation for providing unrivaled levels of service. We have a great mix of people with a variety of experience in the wine industry who are ready to make sure you take home the wine you want. Each visit provides us with the opportunity to gather feedback, pinpoint your preferences and recommend new favourites – it is for this reason that many of our customers build a lasting relationship with one of the team, spanning years, and in some cases decades.
One thing that the entire team has in common is that we are crazy about wine. We are also passionate about food (cooking it, eating it and talking about it) and making pairing suggestions for your perfect meal. We can also help you select the best products for your events, as well as hosting wine tastings to help share our knowledge, while keeping things light & fun for everyone!
